Hi there. My name is Gemma and I am a part time wheelchair user. I have Complex Regional Pain Syndrome in the lower right hand side of my bod so I can walk a little indoors but always need to use my wheelchair outdoors.

I am very independent (some would say stubborn) and I try my best not to let my disability stop me from doing the things I want to do in life. I have to admit that I enjoy staying home these days and I've got a little set in my ways but I also enjoy going out and doing things. I love just getting the train and going off for days out. I do a lot of things alone and this doesn't bother me. Partly because I just like doing things myself and for myself and partly because a lot of my friends have moved on with their own lives and are tied up in work and relationships of their own.

I live on my own in a little bungalow and I am mum to two adorable rabbit's, Jenny and Sam, who are my life and I love to pieces. I am passionate about animals and about animal welfare. I have kept rabbit's for a very, very long time so I am passionate about them but my two rabbit's are amazing company and a comfort when I'm feeling down. Jenny and Sam are two house rabbit's so to be involved with me on any level you have to like and respect animals and accept that my home is their house, guests are visitors who have to be nice to them! They are a major part of my life and they are my family. I am passionate about all animals though, infact I am a vegan, so again new friends have to accept this even if you don't understand or quite appreciate my love of animals. Although I think there's nothing more attractive than an animal lover who can treat those weaker than his or herself with empathy and respect.

My disability has made working difficult however I am trying to get into some part time work but I'm afraid that's a long story. However I have studied for a BA (Hons) and recently a MA part time and I'm a professional illustrator. Again I like to work with the animal theme and I'm working on a lot of little projects. At the moment it's more of a hobby to keep me busy, keep my skills up and keep my mind active, but I am looking to try to go self employed in the near future.
